I was approached by ESAB to develop a Talent Management Profiles Database for use in the human resources department. The client knew Access and believed that was the right tool for the job.
After receiving details of the data to be held I discussed with the client the best way incorporate photos of the staff members and talent web graphics.
The system was created in Access 2003 and uses a technique I have developed to provide self maintaining dropdown boxes, these go a long way to ensuring consistent data whilst still providing flexibility.
The system validates the users entries and prevents records being added to the database where the validation rules are not met.
The system has a single button to export the data to Excel, this can either be all the data, or a subset of the data if the user applies a filter before exporting, the
caption of the export button changes to reflect whether a full or filtered export will be undertaken. The system
pops up a dialog box for the user to save the Excel export file, but initially sets it to go to the users desktop and gives it a filename using the current date and time.
The system was demonstrated to the client and installed remotely using the excellent Mikogo software.
The system has a custom menu which I designed to provide all the functionality the client requires without all the confusing clutter Access provides by default.
I needed a practical and quick database to help manage talent in my organisation. Dennis provided a very user friendly, fit for purpose bespoke solution in a very quick time. I have already recommended him to others in my profession and will certainly be using him again. Great job!
